Principal's Welcome

Welcome Students, Parents/Guardians and Community Members!

Welcome to West Wilkes Middle School- Home of the Knights! At the Castle, it is our goal to provide the best educational experience possible with your assistance.  We hope that you will join us as we take time at West Wilkes Middle School to focus on student achievement and celebrating successes.  We look forward to your involvement and continued support here at West Wilkes Middle School.

As a parent and/or community member, you have an important part in this quest.  As a school we can provide the tools for success, yet, without your help, we cannot help our students reach their fullest potential. You can stay connected to West Wilkes Middle School events and staff by using our school website- wwms.wilkescountyschools.org.

This year, West Wilkes Middle School will continue working with the “LEAD” process by Franklin Covey.  This process is based on 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey.  Our students will work with 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey.  At West Wilkes Middle School, we want our students to have skills that will allow them to manage and lead in all facets of their lives.  This process allows individuals to apply 7 Habits and practice with those habits on a daily basis.

You are invited to support our efforts by joining the PTO and/or Athletic Boosters.  All are welcome to attend school sponsored family nights and athletic events.  Additionally, you can contribute to our school by saving BoxTops.  West Wilkes Middle School will have a BoxTop drive the last Friday of each month.  Each BoxTop submitted - equates to ten cents.  This is not a lot by itself, but as a school we can accomplish many large initiatives.

The Castle uses Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) known as the KNIGHT’s CODE for discipline.  We set high expectations and reinforce those expectations with our students so their focus is on academics.   Your support in reinforcing our expectations shows your child what happens at the Castle matters.  PBIS is used in all areas of the school and offers many levels of support.

GEAR-Up 101 is another offering provided at West Wilkes Middle School.  All students will be exposed to Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs in order to increase college career readiness.  All students will create and utilize their own CFNC.org account this year.

I am honored to be a member of the Knight Team and leader of West Middle School’s Educational Crusade.  We endeavor to prepare our students to compete with others in tomorrow’s future.  Your Knight deserves our support as we move forward with our quest to be the best ever.  Your support of our school and your child is greatly appreciated.

There is nothing greater than being a Knight!  We hope you will be an integral part of our Quest this year as we continue to be the best middle school in Wilkes County and the state of North Carolina!

With Knight Pride,

Mrs. Pamela Huffman, Principal
